No sooner has summer knocked on our door than we feel the arrival of ants with a bang! Now they are gradually taking over the premises. We find some lost in the kitchen or near the balcony. Others seem to be meeting upstairs in the garden. Oh no, it won’t be like last year! This time, you’ll be well armed to keep them out of your home. Friendly, of course. You don’t have to do it the hard way: You’ll be swapping toxic insecticides for home remedies that are both natural and sustainable, and perfect for safe hunting. Quickly discover these proven tips!

The invaders are back!

With the arrival of nice weather, we can also expect the return (much dreaded!) of many species of insects. Unfortunately, these undesirables always want to come back to disturb your summer evenings on the terrace. Ants, mosquitoes, flies and other gnats invade your home without being asked. A fatality? Not at all. You just have to be smart and use the right gestures toward them off unconditionally. Even now, make sure to keep your home clean at all times. Cleanliness remains a very reliable enemy against these parasites. On the other hand, ants are generally attracted to the smell of food, especially sweets. Therefore, try to keep cakes and pastries in tightly closed containers, if possible. So, your scents do not attract unwanted guests. And especially in the summer, when we keep the doors and windows open because of the heat.

How to get rid of ants with grandmother’s remedies?

If you have access to a variety of repellents on the market, do not be too quick to jump the gun. As you know, chemical substances pollute the environment and are also not recommended in households with small children and pets. Remember that it is not always necessary to resort to drastic methods to “get rid” of these seasonal invaders. Nor is it a matter of eradicating them! Only toward them off, the use of natural products is strongly recommended. That’s good, our grandmothers have something to inspire us on this subject. Today you will discover some promising means to keep ants away from your house or apartment. The problem will be solved in no time!

Use the power of cinnamon to repel ants

Ground cinnamon and cinnamon sticks have an intoxicating scent that adds a special touch to our cakes and sophisticated recipes. But strangely enough, ants find its smell repulsive and prefer to stay away from it. And they are right, because ground cinnamon tends to clog their breathing holes. This makes it hard for them to breathe and they choke on the smell. What a great deal for you. If you want to keep them out of your field of vision, run fast and get some! Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Sprinkle ground cinnamon in a circle around the anthills or in a row to prevent the ants from getting inside.

Step 2: Spread more ground cinnamon along the ant trails and in any areas where ants like to congregate.

Step 3: Create a cinnamon barrier in front of doors, windows, pipes, vents and any cracks or crevices that these insects use to enter the house from the yard.

Step 4: Place cinnamon sticks in your yard and other high-traffic areas to repel ants. To enhance the effect, add a few drops of cinnamon oil to the sticks.

Remedy of choice: Trust essential oils

Essential oils are known to deter all kinds of insects. They are very concentrated and have a very characteristic smell that makes them unbearable, especially ants. So bet more on those that are most likely to push them to turn over. The most effective are Peppermint, Cedar, Tea Tree, Vetiver, Orange and Cinnamon. With their strong scent, all these essential oils mask the paths that these little animals often take.

Step 1: Place five drops of the essential oil of your choice on a cotton ball. Place several of these balls in your kitchen, garden, or other place where ants congregate.

Step 2: Replace the cotton balls every other day until the undesirables in these areas are gone.

Step 3: Fill a spray bottle with 15 drops of an essential oil per ¼ cup of water. Shake the bottle well!

Step 4: Try to track down the ants and spray the solution all around as soon as you notice them in a row. They will magically evaporate!

How to drive away ants with white vinegar?

Let’s admit that we ourselves already have difficulty tolerating the strong smell of vinegar. So, imagine the reaction of the ants! It overwhelms their senses and disturbs them in the highest degree. Take the opportunity to cover their paths leading to the garden or pantry with this unbearable scent. The application is quite simple:

Step 1: In a spray bottle, mix equal parts of white vinegar and water.

Step 2: Spray the solution wherever you see ant trails to limit the invasion.

Step 3: Spray this liquid in the areas of your yard where you spend the most time (walkways, playgrounds, patios, etc.) and outside your front door.

Step 4: Pour the solution into the anthill to drive away any ants that remain inside.

Note: Be careful, vinegar damages plants and dries out the soil. Therefore, use it sparingly in the lawn and garden.

How to avoid the invasion of ants with lemon juice?

Finally, lemon is the last natural remedy as effective as the previous ones, and an unexpected repellent. Its high acidity disturbs and erases ant pheromone traces. Two birds with one stone: the lemony scent refreshes the house and at the same time radically expels ants. Here are the steps you need to follow:

Step 1: To control ants indoors, soak a paper towel in lemon juice and use it to wipe down your kitchen counters, floor, pantry shelves and any other places where ants frequent.

Step 2: Soak another paper towel and wipe down windowsills, door frames and other potential entry points to prevent more ants from entering.

Step 3: For outdoor ants, mix 3 glasses of water and 1 glass of lemon juice in a spray bottle.

Step 4: Spray the solution around the anthills in your yard and along the paths where the ants pass.

Step 5: Also spray around the perimeter of your outdoor areas, such as the balcony and patio, to prevent possible invasion.
