Making your own BBQ sauce doesn’t require hours in the kitchen. We’ll show you how to prepare the sauce easily and how to customize it. BBQ sauce is a staple for grilling. It gives grilled meat a spicy and aromatic note and pairs perfectly with the typical BBQ flavor. This helps avoid long transport distances and associated CO2 emissions.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 850 ml of peeled tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 6 tablespoons of brown sugar or raw cane sugar
  • 6 tablespoons of honey (vegan)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 teaspoons of ground cumin
  • 100 ml of apple cider vinegar
  • A pinch of chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to prepare BBQ Sauce:

  1. Finely chop the garlic or press it with a garlic press.
  2. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, honey, bay leaf, cumin, and other spices to a saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes over low heat, stirring regularly.
  4. Add the apple cider vinegar and about 250 milliliters of water. Let the BBQ sauce simmer for another 40 to 50 minutes until it thickens.
  5. Remove the bay leaf and season with salt and pepper if necessary.
  6. Pour the BBQ sauce into screw-top jars and let it cool completely.
  7. It will be better if you let it sit for at least one night.
  8. The BBQ sauce can now be stored in the refrigerator for about two to three weeks.
