Frequent washing often leads to blockages inside the washing machine. This inconvenience often results in bad odors and residue on the laundry. Therefore, it is important to maintain this device regularly. We offer you a natural ingredient that prevents three common washing machine problems! The humid environment of this device favors the proliferation of bacteria and the development of bad odors. Subsequently, the various components must be carefully cleaned to extend the life, maintain efficiency and save money.

How to use this ingredient to maintain the washing machine?

It is possible to clean the washing machine using only one natural ingredient that can be found in every home. The latter is able to both preserve the shine of the laundry and decalcify and deodorize it.

  • Baking soda to descale the washing machine

Baking soda effectively removes lime residue in the washing machine. If you use this ingredient in your washing machine, the cake will have no place in your machine. Simply add the equivalent of half a cup of baking soda to the detergent drawer or directly into the drum, then run the machine empty at 140° or 195°. Since this trick is safe, it can be renewed as often as needed.

  • Baking soda to degrease the drum of the machine

Baking soda also degreases and disinfects the inside of the drum of the machine. In fact, grease and detergent residues can accumulate at the bottom of the tank and spread bad odors inside the machine.  Simply add 4 scoops or half a cup of this cleaning powder to the drum. Then add half a cup of white vinegar and start a normal wash cycle at 195°. This process can be completed by cleaning the seals, door and detergent drawers with a soft cloth soaked in vinegar.

  • Baking soda to clean the drains of washing machines

Also, limestone can get stuck in the gaps of the machine and clog the pipes. To remove blockages, it is recommended to pour the same amount of product into the siphon as indicated in the previous recipe. However, you must wait a few hours before using the washing machine again.

  • Neutralize bad odors from the machine

Bicarbonate also has benefits when it comes to laundry care. Adding 1 tablespoon of baking soda to the fabric softener compartment will remove unpleasant odors from your laundry. In fact, the small amount of product left on fabrics after drying eliminates and neutralizes any remaining odors.

  • Strengthen the degreasing effect of the liquid detergent of the machine

The use of baking soda in the washing machine also helps to enhance the effect of liquid detergent. Before starting a normal wash cycle, pour half of the usual detergent dose into the compartment and then add 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the same compartment. This will make it easier to remove grease stains from fabrics.
