It is easy for unpleasant odors to occur in the bathroom, especially at the level of the pipes and especially the toilets. These are surfaces that need to be kept clean on a daily basis. However, from time to time it is necessary to clean them a little more thoroughly. Lime stains can also form in the toilet. One of the most radical methods that will allow you to eliminate bad odors and clean the toilets is to use a perfumed salt, which can be easily prepared at home and whose flavors can be customized according to taste.

Cleaning the bathroom without chemicals

To prepare this remedy, all you need is coarse salt and baking soda in equal quantities, as well as a few drops of an essential oil of your choice. Mix specifically ½ lb. of salt and ½ lb. of baking soda in a small bowl and then add about 20 drops of essential oil. Salt removes lime stains and cleans toilets, while baking soda has excellent deodorizing properties. The best aromas to add are tea tree, which has antibacterial properties, then fresh aromas like lemon or another citrus, but also lavender. Likewise, balsamic aromas like mint or eucalyptus are highly recommended. Depending on your taste, you can mix two or three flavors to best personalize your preparation.

Of course, it is better to prepare everything on the spot, but you can also increase the quantities, store the salt in an airtight jar and use it several times in a row. For safety, it is better to pour it in the evening or on a day when you are not at home and let it soak for at least 10 to 12 hours. Next, boil a pot of water and pour it carefully into the toilet without pouring out the water too quickly. This trick is quick and easy to prepare. It’s still a great alternative to store-bought deodorants that keep toilets clean. However, if the unpleasant odors persist, we strongly advise you to call in a professional to check the plumbing.
