Do you still clean with chemical detergents? In this article we show you how to clean your home with cola.

My grandma is not the biggest fan of soft drinks, such as cola. According to her, the drinks are too sweet, unhealthy and ruin the body, and of course she’s not completely wrong. You can imagine the look on my face when I saw a bottle of Coke in the kitchen when I visited her. Why? She uses the drink for cleaning. We’ll show you why and where you can use cola to clean in the home in this article.

Why can cola be used for cleaning?

Coke, surprisingly, can be used as a household cleaner, thanks to its unique ingredients, such as the phosphoric acid and citric acid it contains. The sugar in cola also attracts pests like slugs, which are then killed by the acid, and even the dye can be used to treat stains. This combination makes cola not only a delicious drink, but also an effective cleaner – although sometimes rinsing with water is necessary to remove sticky residues. Here’s how you can use cola to clean.

  1. Rust remover

Do you have a rusty tool or screws that won’t come off? Cola can help! The phosphoric acid contained in cola acts as a rust remover. Simply soak the rusty object in cola and let it sit for a few hours or overnight. Then scrub with a brush and rinse off the rust.

  1. Stain remover

Cola can remove stubborn stains such as grease, blood or ink from clothing. Put some cola directly on the stain and let it soak in before washing it as usual. You’ll be amazed at how the stains disappear!

  1. Toilet cleaner

Yes, you read that right. Coke can even be used to clean your toilet. Pour a bottle of Coke into the bowl, let it soak for about an hour, and then brush with a toilet brush. Flush the toilet as usual, and you’ll have a sparkling clean bowl.

  1. Garden aid

Coke can also be useful in the garden. If you’re plagued by slugs and pests, set out a bowl of cola. The sweetness of cola attracts them, and the acidity kills them.

  1. Window cleaner

Mix Coke with a little water, and you have an effective window cleaner. The acids in cola help remove dirt and grease. Spray the mixture on the window and wipe it off with a clean cloth.

  1. Chewing gum remover

Have you ever gotten gum stuck in your hair or on your carpet? Coke can help here, too. Soak the affected area with cola and let it sit for a few minutes. The chewing gum will come off more easily.

  1. Care for burnt pots and pans

If you have burnt food residue in pots or pans, fill them up with cola and boil them. The acid in the cola will dissolve the burnt areas and you can easily wipe them off.
