There is nothing nicer than always having clean and fragrant comforters and pillows. Too bad, though, that since they are in contact with our skin they easily tend to lose their clean scent. We are tempted to wash them frequently, but if in summer it is possible, in winter it is really difficult especially when it comes to comforters that are not at all easy either to wash or to dry. But having them always smelling good is not impossible! Today, in fact, we will see together how to make DIY deodorant to scent and freshen comforters and pillows!

With baking soda

There are more natural ingredients that we can use to make DIY deodorant that can scent comforters and pillows. These include baking soda, which is known precisely for its ability to neutralize odors. Equip yourself, therefore, with:

  • 2 cups of distilled water
  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 25 drops of your favorite essential oil

Start by pouring the baking soda into a bowl containing water and add, then, the drops of essential oil from the fragrance you like best. We recommend that you prefer lavender essential oil so that it also promotes sleep or tea tree oil, which boasts antibacterial and anti-odor properties.  Mix, then, all the ingredients and decant the resulting mixture into a spray bottle. After that, shake it vigorously and spray it on the comforter and pillows and let it dry-and what a scent! In addition to scenting and refreshing your pillow and comforter, you will have brought a whiff of good smell to your whole room! As if that were not enough, this deodorizer can also be used on sofas and curtains!

N.B We always recommend that you shake the bottle vigorously to further mix the ingredients. We recommend that you do not spray an excessive amount and do not put the vaporizer too close otherwise your pillows and comforters may get wet.

With vinegar

Another deodorizer for pillows and comforters can be made by having vinegar as a basic ingredient, which, like baking soda is able to quickly neutralize bad odors. In fact, we remind you that it is also used to remove the smell of dampness from laundry! All you need will be:

  • 2 cups of distilled water
  • ½ cup of wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • 20 drops of your favorite essential oil.

Then, in a spray bottle, pour the distilled water, wine vinegar and shake vigorously. After that, add the baking soda and your chosen essential oil drops and your deodorant is ready to use! All you have to do is spray and your comforters and pillows will smell as good as freshly washed! In addition, this remedy is also good for removing the stuffy smell we often find on comforters!

N.B This deodorant can also be used on clothing, but we recommend that you always make sure that they are not too delicate or valuable. In this case, it is best to avoid.

With citric acid

Finally, let’s see how to make a final DIY deodorant with citric acid, a more environmentally friendly ingredient than vinegar while boasting the same effectiveness. In a bottle containing one quart of distilled water, pour about ½ lb. of citric acid powder and let it dissolve.

After that, add 15 drops of citrus essential oil to impart a fresh scent and decant it into a vaporizer. Finally, all you have to do is spray it on your pillows and comforters, and a nice scent will invest the whole room! In addition, citric acid can also be used as an eco-friendly fabric softener that can make your laundry as soft as ever!

Warnings

We advise you to avoid using deodorants on some very delicate and very valuable fabrics. Always do a test on a small, hidden part of fabric first to make sure the spray does not leave stains.
