The bathroom, it is known, is an environment prone to various problems, including bad odors, moisture and mold. Not to mention the shower, which is constantly exposed to water. One place particularly prone to mold is the silicone gasket of the shower stall, which even tends to blacken. So, how to do it? In this regard, today we will look together at some homemade and natural ingredients to say goodbye to mold from the shower gasket and have it as clean as ever!
Vinegar
The first remedy we recommend could not help but be vinegar, known starting with our grandmothers for its cleaning, stain-removing and degreasing properties, which are very useful in eco-friendly household cleaning. All you need to do, then, is to pour 3 parts vinegar and the remaining part water into a spray bottle and spray, then, the resulting mixture on the “black” present along the gasket of your shower stall. At this point, leave it to work for a while, after which, using an old toothbrush or a nonabrasive sponge, gently scrub. Finally, rinse and you’re done!
Citric acid
As an alternative to vinegar, you can also use citric acid, a natural limescale remover that can come to your rescue not only to remove mold from your shower but also limescale buildup! We remind you, in fact, that it is used as a dishwashing treatment! Pour, then, ¾ lb of citric acid into 1 quart of water, after which, pour it into a vaporizer and spray generously on the mold. Leave it to work, then remove the dirt with a small brush and rinse: your shower will be as good as new!
Lemon
After vinegar and citric acid, how could the much-loved lemon, the citrus fruit with multiple properties, be missing from the roll call? As if that were not enough, then, it is also capable of infusing an intoxicating scent into your bathroom! Therefore, extract the juice of 1 lemon and pour it on a cloth or on a wad of absorbent cotton. After that, place the soaked pad or cloth all along the gasket or on the places where the black stain is present and let it work for about 1 hour. Finally, rinse with water and wipe with a sponge to remove the last remnants-the mold will be just a bad memory!
Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide
Another remedy to try in case of stubborn mold that just won’t go away involves the use of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, which, although not exactly environmentally friendly, still has an ecological approach. So, pour one cup of hydrogen peroxide and two tablespoons of baking soda into a spray bottle and shake it so the ingredients are mixed. For an even more effective effect, you can also add a few drops of tea tree oil. After that, spray the resulting mixture on the shower gasket, leave it on for a while and rinse. Repeat the operation if necessary. Finally, wipe off any residue with a dry cloth. We also remind you that hydrogen peroxide can also be used to remove mold from walls!
Anti-mold mix
Is the mold on your shower gasket still not gone? Fear not because we have the solution for you: the anti-mold mix, which combines the properties of several ingredients resulting in a truly super effective product! Therefore, equip yourself with:
- 2 cups of of water
- 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide
- 1 tablespoon of fine salt
- 2 tablespoons of baking soda
- absorbent cotton to taste.
All you need to do is add the baking soda and salt to a saucepan containing water, bring it to a boil, and then add the hydrogen peroxide. At this point, wait for the mixture to become lukewarm so as not to scald yourself and then completely soak the absorbent cotton balls or cotton discs in the solution. Without wringing them out, place them along the area where there is mold as if to form a kind of barrier and leave for about an hour. Finally, move the cotton balls and rinse: mold on your shower will be just a bad memory!
Warnings
Please remember to try the remedies described earlier on unseen corners so you can make sure you don’t damage your shower. If you have a marble or natural stone shower, do not use vinegar, lemon or citric acid because you may corrode it.
