Clean the toilet seat with baking soda

Bleach is often thought of for stubborn stains and discolorations like yellowed surfaces. However, it is not the ideal choice, as its use always requires some effort to achieve a perfect result, in addition to a health risk. Instead, use baking soda, which is safer and has significant cleaning and antibacterial powers.  The trick is done in several steps to achieve the best results.

  • First, mix half a cup of baking soda with some water to make a paste.
  • Spread the paste on the toilet seat.
  • Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Then use a damp towel or scouring pad and rub the seat to loosen dirt and remove stains.

Use a scratch-resistant sponge or even a clean toilet brush and scrub, preferably in a circular motion. This action, paired with a good scrubbing tool, will make it easier for the disinfectant product to penetrate. Then rinse with a damp cloth and reapply the baking soda paste to the stained area as often as possible. At least until the stain has disappeared. Then rinse with clean water and wipe the seat with a dry cloth.  You can also use this trick through a spray bottle, you can add 1 quart of water to two tablespoons of baking soda. Shake the bottle and apply it following the same steps above. After a few repetitions, the seat should usually shine again.
