Pot and pan handles have a hole at the end. Very often it is used to hang these utensils, saving space. But is that really the reason for the existence of this hole? Find out why your pans have a hole in the handle. Hanging pans by the hole in their handle is a convenient way to store them and save space. But this use does not explain the real reason for the presence of a hole in the handle of this utensil.

Why do frying pans have a hole in the handle?

The utensil that always accompanies our stove when cooking, is the wooden spoon. In fact, it is used to mix our preparation and prevent it from burning or sticking to the bottom of the pan. But often you do not know where to put the wooden spoon so that it does not get dirty or stain the countertop or even the lid of the pot. The answer is quite simple. Just stick it in the hole in the pan handle. Note that what was said about the pan handle hole also applies to the hole on the pot handle Tip: Using a wooden spoon is not arbitrary. This will protect the coating of your pans, as well as your pots, from scratches. Metal utensils such as knives, spoons or forks should be avoided. If you want to avoid scratches and ensure a long life of your stainless steel, aluminum, natural cast iron or ceramic pan, choose utensils made of wood, plastic or silicone.

What is the hole in other utensils used for?

Not only the pans or pots have a hole, but other utensils also have them, for reasons that we do not necessarily know well.

  • The hole in the spaghetti spoon

This hole is not only useful for draining your pasta but is mainly used to measure your pasta amount after cooking.    To find out how much is needed for one person, simply fill the spoon.

  • The hole in the cutting board

Some cutting board models have a rectangular hole with sometimes rounded ends. This hole is not only for hanging your utensils but has an even more interesting and practical use. In fact, it is designed to help you pour what you cut on your board into a container, pan or pot. Let’s imagine that you have cut peppers into small cubes, and you want to pour them into a bowl. If you push your peppers to the side using a knife, you risk not aiming properly and placing something everywhere. The best way to do this is to place the hole in the board above your container and push your chopped peppers through the hole. They will land directly in the bowl without landing all over the place. However, the hole in the cutting board acts as a funnel for the chopped vegetables to pass through, so they fall right into your chosen container or utensil without spilling anything.

Utensils are not designed randomly. Every detail serves a purpose. This is especially true of the hole that is in the handle of the cooking pot or frying pan. If you know the actual use, you can prepare your meals more easily.
